The reflector appears like a gigantic floating handkerchief and provides a soft romantic light. Enamelled tubular metal stem with cast-iron base, fiberglass reinforced paper shade and plastic fittings. The Area collection received a Compasso d'Oro mention in 1979'.

Italian architect Mario Bellini is famous for designs produced by amongst others Olivetti. Bellini started working for Olivetti in 1963 but opened up his own Studio Bellini in 1973. 1986-1991 Bellini was the editor in chief for Domus Magazine. He graduated in 1959 at the Politecnico di Milano. His activities range from architecture and urban design to furniture and industrial design. Many of his designs are now in the Permanent Collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
